Quite simply, a stunning whisky. We were lucky enough to try this and were blown away. A deep, dried fruitiness, with a storm-like rumbling of smoke and brackish peat, this is one of those profound tasting experiences that blows you away. The last five years of its maturation was in a high quality Gonzales Byass, and you have a fascinating interplay between sherry and smoke.
Ledaig is the name for the smokier spirit to come from the stills at Tobermory Distillery. With such limited production this revered spirit is already rare, but the spirit from 1972 is legendary. The word 'Dùsgadh' is Gaelic for 'awakening', and the packaging itself is a fitting tribute to this malt and those who made it, with the beautiful copper being a nod to the stills that produced this whisky and which were retired around the time this was released. Within the packaging is a copper card, fashioned from the very stills, which entitles the buyer of this bottle to a 10 year old made from some of the last spirit to run off the stills. We commend the owners of this distillery for such vision and respect for the past and future of their distillery.

Official Tasting Notes

Nose: Rich and complex, intense phenolic sherry aromas, sooty smokiness, fragrant wood, toffee apple, briny with some sweet biscuit maltiness.
Palate: Quite dry evolving to a rich smoky Oloroso sherry character. Massive complex layers of dark chocolate, coffee and cherry liqueurs, extremely smooth, well balanced with spicy ginger and black peppercorn overtones.
Finish: Dry, smooth and spicy, satisfying and very long with a salty smoky tail.
