Managed by ex-Laphroaig Distillery Manager John Campbell, Lochlea is an independent family owned farm distillery based in South Ayrshire. They use barley produced from their own farm in the Whisky production.
A Taste of Home-Grown Whisky
Lochlea Whisky provides a true farm-to-bottle approach. Lochlea Distillery grows and harvests its barley, so its production is always seasonal and unique to South Ayrshire.
Much of their whisky is unchilfiltered with bourbon, Oloroso sherry, and STR casks, making for a special, flavourful blend and incredibly creamy texture. Hints of golden syrup, macadamia nuts, sweet pear, and earthy greens poke through sharp pepper for an impressionable finish.
No colour is added to any batch, allowing its beautiful pinky golds, ambers, and deep copper colours to take centre stage in each bottle.
Lochlea Range
Lochlea Harvest Edition 2nd Crop is matured in multiple casks, first-fill Bourbon and then Port barrels. Port casks give this whisky that buttery texture that gorgeously elevates poignant notes throughout. These include juicy, dark grapes, dried dates, salty smoke, and zippy orange jam.
Lochlea Cask Strength Batch 1 is the first of the annual limited release. It combines the signature ageing between Bourbon and Sherry casks, bottling at natural cask strength with no added colours. This unchilfiltering process includes Lochlea’s own water source from limestone aquifers beneath the distillery. Some of the most notable flavours include smoked oak, ash, coffee, and a refreshing fruit punch medley.
Lochlea Sowing Edition Second Crop is unique because it is aged in first-fill Bourbon casks kept at a higher elevation in Lochlea Distillery’s warehouse. The natural heat that rises to the top of the warehouse helps the batch develop its flavour, slightly accelerating the ageing process. This makes this whisky a viable competitor to its older counterparts, not lacking in flavour or complexity. The most prominent impressions in this batch include signature sweet red apple and pear, musky pine, and vanilla and almond essence.
