At Royal Mile Whiskies we offer only the best Scotch, and Dailuaine creates some of the most memorable bottles on the market.
This Speyside whisky has a classic flavour that many in the northeast region know and love.
Dailuaine is popular amongst independent bottlers, with many of the popular names having used this distillery’s whisky, including James Eadie, Signatory Vintage, Thomson Bros
Even we have selected Dailuaine as one of our exclusive bottlings with a 10 Year Old single cask that we sold earlier this year.
Dailuaine creates a rich, meaty spirit that's almost seems smoky at times, even though it is an unpeated whisky. The spirit tends to embody a fruity 'boiled sweets' flavour, that blends in with stone fruits in sweet syrup. A malty bready quality can come through as citrus zest and nuts add to a dry chocolate note. Bottlings are often small batch independent releases that vary with cask influences, but the 16 year old 'Flora and Fauna' bottling is the classic place to start.

Daluaine sits close to Ben Rinnes in Speyside. The distillery was once part of the Dailuaine-Talisker Distilleries Co Ltd which owned the renowned Skye distillery and later went on to build Imperial. In 1884, the distillery passed from the Mackenzie family to Dailuaine-Glenlivet Distillers Co and was completely rebuilt, adding Scotland's first pagoda roof to the kiln, designed to speed up airflow and reduce the influence of the peat they used at the time.
Dailuaine has been devestated by fire twice in its history. In 1917, under ownership of John Dewar & Sons, the kiln fires grew out of control, destroying the pagoda roof and setting the distillery ablaze, forcing its closure for three years. In 1959 a smaller fire ripped through the distillery triggering DCL to implement a rebuild, refurbishment and an expansion up to six stills along with new Saladin maltings rather than hand turned malting floors.
Dailuaine has been a staple of blends, primarily Dewar's, throughout its life. Unfortunately it has meant that this great malt only graduated to an official single malt bottling in 1991, with Diageo's 16 year old Flora & Fauna edition. A few independent bottlers have released some interesting editions, notably Single Cask and Small Batch bottlings from James Eadie and Signatory Vintage.
