The history of Craigellachie Whisky
Craigellachie may well be a Speyside distillery, its big, meaty body really makes it stand out and shows how much variation there is in the region. A thick, oily quality in the feel of the whisky coats the palate with notes of honey glazed barbequed meat. A collection of nuts and sweet fruits play into the dram before sulphur settles into a creamy hint. Even though it is not peaty, it is a bit of a beast of a whisky and should appeal to Mortlach fans.

Craigellachie is at the very heart of Speyside where the river Fiddich meets the river Spey. Like the village which bears its name, it has long been associated with the blended whisky, White Horse. Indeed Sir Peter Mackie, the founder of White Horse Distillers, was one of the original founders of the distillery.
In 1998 its ownership changed to John Dewar & Sons and the whisky continued to be used in great quantities in Dewar's blends. The popularity of using Craigellachie to add body and depth to blends meant that there were only a handful of official bottlings until 2014, when Bacardi released Craigellachie in a series of age statements as part of the Last Great Malts range. This program was a labour of love from Stephen Marshall.
