Aultmore gently greets drinkers with delicate florals, a soft malty honey note and freshly cut grass. Wild herbs and a sugar sweetness join the gathering. As the whisky matures, the herbs become earthier, heathers and rosemary, while luscious baked white fruit and melon shine through with a citrus note blending into the grassy tones. At its peak, rich vanillas and buttery biscuit tones add another layer.

Built by Alexander Edward, then-owner of Benrinnes and co-founder of Craigellachie, Aultmore found a home in supplying the blended malt industry. So much so that it was a rare malt to find by itself. In 1923, Aultmore attracted the attention of John Dewar & Sons, and became part of the estate, still providing malt for blending purposes.
Aultmore has since remained a part of the Dewar's estate, albeit while Dewar's itself had been bought out by the Distillers Company, eventually falling under Diageo. It is worth noting that when Bacardi were in talks with Diageo to buy the John Dewar & Sons estate, it is said that the value of Aultmore for blends was so great that Bacardi were willing to drop the entire transaction if the distillery was not included in the sale.
Now residing within Bacardi, Aultmore takes pride of place in the Last Great Malts collection, alongside its long lost sister, Craigellachie, as well as Aberfeldy, Royal Brackla and The Deveron.
