As transparency was becoming a big issue in whisky production, the Alpha took a rather different tack. Glenlivet released this limited bottling in 2013 with no information except a distillery, bottle name, volume, and ABV. With nothing to go on (even the colour was obscured by the black bottle until you pour a dram) consumers were encouraged to create their own tasting notes without the preconceptions afforded by knowing the age / cask type / peat PPM etc. A media campaign gave hints and tips along the way, until the master distiller finally released everything (except the age, due to SWA rules) in June of the same year.
