Charles Doig, great designer of Single Malt Distilleries (including Glen Elgin) and the man who designed the pagoda roofs that appear on many distilleries, predicted when Glen Elgin was being constructed (late 1890's) that there wouldn't be another distillery constructed in Speyside for another 50 years, due to the end of the whisky boom. He wasn't far off; there wasn't another distillery built until Tormore in 1958. Glen Elgin is quite a rich, heavy whisky, rarely seen as single malt, due to its use in the White Horse blend.
