Lagg Whiskies is a fresh new distillery taking a modern spin on classic Arran whisky distilling methods, making it an emerging authority among island whiskies. Based on the Isle of Arran, this whisky distillery began building in 2017 and opened its doors in 2019, showing off its custom-made copper pots, wooden washbacks, and traditional processes.
Lagg keeps its ingredients simple, using only Concerto malted barley, water, peat smoke, and yeast to create this one-of-a-kind dram. Their drying and smoking process infuses deep, peaty flavour to each fermented batch and is left to mature in bourbon oak casks, resulting in a smoky and delicious spirit.
Some Great Lagg Whisky Releases
Lagg Kilmory is the first major core release in 2022 from this distillery. It is aged in strictly bourbon barrels, has a 100% natural soft gold colour, and is unchilfiltered. A lovely scent of smoked heather and grilled citrus fruits leaves an inviting first impression. Flavours meld from a zippy lemon to creamy vanilla and woody oak, all elevating the dry finish of this heavily peated malt.
Lagg Corriecravie has a rich mahogany gold colour and is also natural and unchilfiltered. This is the second release of the core range that begins ageing in Bourbon barrels. It finishes its last six months maturing in Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks for a vibrantly decadent flavour profile.
This whisky opens with a scent of lush, dark cocoa, clove and berry compote. Its palate shifts to highlight the peat smoke within, embodying roasted nuts and campfire ash. Finally, the taste settles with gently sweet chocolate and toasty oak.
