Glentauchers was, perhaps unsurprisingly, built on a field of the Tauchers farm four miles from Keith on the Mulben road in 1898. One of the original owners of the distillery was James Buchanan. The whisky is still used in the Black and White blend, amongst others. Glentauchers is another distillery that has been built to provide the backbone fore blends, although independent bottlings are available.

Not every single malt whisky is destined to become a home name brand and this certainly the case with Glentauchers. It's often dry, sweet, malty spiciness is lusted after by blenders across the country. As such, single malt expressions are rare and only really seen from independent bottlers.
Prior to World War I the distillery was involved with experiments in continuous malt production. The distillery was rebuilt between 1965 and 1966 when a new mashhouse and tun room were added, and the number of stills trebled from two to six. The distillery was closed in 1985 but was reopened in 1989 when it was sold to Allied Distillers.
