If you ask someone to imagine a Scottish whisky distillery there is a very good chance the picture in their head looks a lot like Glengoyne. Glengoyne Distillery lies in a tranquil wooded glen on the western edge of the Campsie Fells and sits at the foot of a small waterfall tumbling from Dumgoyne Hill. It's a light, flavourful and very drinkable whisky. Malty, with plenty of apples present.

Glengoyne distillery has been producing its smooth, gentle whisky since 1833 (although when it was opened it was known as Burnfoot distillery). Its an almost perfect location for producing whisky. The distillery itself is just over the 'Highland Line' (which is actually the road just outside the distillery!) but their warehouses are in the Lowlands. The gentle unpeated style of whisky produced at Glengoyne has won it many fans over the years and is great counter point to the smoky beasts being crafted on Islay.
To avoid having any peaty taint to their whisky Glengoyne ask that the barley they use be dried using only hot air. During the whisky making process they also believe in taking things slowly. This starts with a very long fermentation period before starting the slowest distillation in Scotland. These combined methods lead to a very light, fruity spirit.
Glengoyne are also huge fans of using ex-sherry barrels to mature their single malts. The Butts they tend to favour lend their qualities brilliantly to the delicate and fresh spirit. Glengoyne is certainly one for anybody who likes their whiskies light, fresh and fruity.
