Since its founding in 1826 Glendullan has been produced with the intention of almost all of the whisky being used for blending purposes - although it has appeared as a single malt on rare occasions. The light, sweet and grassy nature has proved popular with blenders over many generations. Glendullan is also said to have a floral and perfumy nature which has contributed to its success over the years.

Glendullan was the last of the original seven distilleries of Dufftown when it was built in 1897. It was built to take advantage of the water from the River Fiddich and the private railway siding at neighboring Mortlach distillery. By the time that DCL acquired the distillery in 1925 it already had an impressive reputation, and a small amount of single malt was supplied to Edward VII in 1902.
Glendullan was rebuilt in 1962, but the main changes occurred between 1971 and 1972 when an additional distillery unit was built on site, which houses six stills. Both halves of the distillery operated in conjunction until the original site was closed in 1985. Now only the distillery originally known as 'Glendullan 2' produces whisky.
As a single malt Glendullan is quite ellusive. There is an offical 'Flora and Fauna' bottling as well as 'The Singleton of Glendullan' which is only available in North America but apart from these you'll have to venture into independent bottlings to try this light and fresh whisky.
