There is an excellent range of Glen Moray Whisky at Royal Mile Whiskies, available online and in our store.
A staple of Speyside, Glen Moray has been producing whisky for over 120 years, offering w single malts that appeal to both casual drinkers and whisky enthusiasts alike.
Whether you favour an approachable fruity dram or something bolder and peatier, Glen Moray has something for you.
Well Over A Century Of Refinement
Glen Moray is a light and fruity style, with grassy hints. Starting off with citrusy notes, the standard age statements develop a deeper shortbread, biscuit body, incorporating spices, leather and chocolate into a buttery core. Their wine and port cask finishes add rich fruits and concentrated sweetness, while the peated edition intensifies wood vanillas and spice, with dry leather coming through the smoke.

Glen Moray is situated on the western outskirts of the town of Elgin and takes its water from the River Lossie. The site was a brewery dating from 1815, until it was converted to add a stillhouse and Glen Moray Distillery was founded. The distillery grounds contain Gallowcrook Hill, Elgin's former gallows. In 1962 when the distillery grounds were excavated in order to build a new warehouse, seven skulls were uncovered, one of which had a musket ball embedded in the jaw. The distillery has a more peaceful existence these days!
Although Glen Moray's former sister distillery Glenmorangie has been championed as a pioneer in finishing its whisky in red wine casks, the initial experiments in wood finishes were carried out at Glen Moray. Glen Moray, since 1999, has been mellowing its whisky in casks which have previously contained Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc, making them one of the first to use this process with wine casks.
In 2008 Glen Moray was sold to the French spirits company La Martiniquaise and they have expanded the distillery's range with non-age statement, quality releases of fortified wine cask finished and peated whiskies. They have helped the distillery's image greatly, which was damaged during the Nineties when its malts were sold ridiculously cheaply in British supermarkets resulting in many assuming it was of poor quality.
The Glen Moray Whisky Range
We offer a great selection of both official and independent bottlings from Glen Moray.
The Glen Moray 15 Year Old - a great value and complex whisky that’s been matured in both ex-bourbon casks and ex-sherry casks. It’s full of apples and caramel with a drying finish.
People who like a bit of smokiness in their regular dram might be more partial to the Glen Moray Peated, a bottle which does a great job of mixing smoke with classic caramel and vanilla notes.
We also have a number of independent bottlings, including our very own Royal Mile Whiskies 31 Year Old Glen Moray bottled exclusively for our customers by our buyers – it’s a classic old Speysider with tropical notes.
Each bottle from Glen Moray delivers a unique experience, whether you’re exploring their core range or one of their limited releases.
