Glen Keith is a pretty uncommon bottling, and it can be difficult to find two alike. Generally the whisky has strong elements of oatmeal and sweet bakery products as a base for light white fruits and citrus tones. Some gingery spices and Demerara sugar, can be common in a slightly oily body, and a peat smoke can be found in some editions, thanks to the experimental nature of the distillery.

Glen Keith was built on the bank of the River Isla opposite Strathisla, on the site of an old meal mill by Seagrams, to add to the production for Chivas, 100 Pipers and Passport blends. The distillery was originally set up as a three still operation using one wash still, one low wines still and a spirit still. The practice of alternately double and triple distilling the spirit was used with this setup, and also through two still expansions, until the 1980s.
The unusual practises didn't stop there, however, as Glen Keith became the experimental distillery for any weird and wonderful ideas the distillers could come up with. These ranged from simple heavily peated editions (bottled as the rarely seen Glen Isla), to peating malts by steeping them in concentrated smoke-infused water, to trialling different yeast types and wholly wheat mashes. These all utilised the different still shapes in different orders to further play with their options. This makes for a rather confusing flavour profile for any single malt editions that found their way to the market.
In 1999, the distillery was mothballed, and sat dormant until 2013 when Pernod Ricard bought and refurbished the distillery. Unfortunately, while there has been an official 10 year old bottling, releases from Glen Keith are few, far between and largely found with independent bottlers.
