With more than 180 years of operation, Dalmore have established themselves as iconic whisky producers.
Our range at Royal Mile Whiskies reflects the highland whisky, with some incredible bottles as well as popular products.
Dalmore hand selects their casks for ageing, ensuring every bottle they produce is as incredible as the last.
Well aware of this, our purchasing team has been equally careful to put together a great selection which caters to whisky lovers’ varied preferences.
Dalmore is world renowned for its classic profile; a smooth and complex, yet balanced malt. It uses specially selected 'Matusalem' oloroso sherry casks along with a selection of other sherry casks and American ex-bourbon casks to create a rich, dried fruity character. Fans praise it for 'smoothness', with the woody spice always balanced against orange, vanilla and deep flavours of chocolate. It goes well with chocolate too.

Dalmore was founded by Alexander Matheson, a wealthy partner in the company that took over the East India Trading Co, and, at the time of building the distillery, controlled the opium exports into China. The Mackenzie family took ownership in 1878, and it remained with them until long-time customers Whyte & Mackay bought the distillery in 1960 to secure its contribution to their blends.
The distillery has had a long continuous production, surviving many ups and downs in the whisky industry, while other distilleries stumbled. The only gap in Dalmore's production was from 1917 to 1922, when the distillery was commanded by the Royal Navy to create mines for the Great War. The Royal Navy departed from Dalmore in 1920, but the distillery had suffered such damage that it was another two years before production could resume.
In recent years, Whyte & Mackay have focused more on Dalmore as a single malt. While, in the early days of their ownership, Dalmore was restricted to a 12 year old edition, now the range has expanded to include a number of age statements, a few special releases and even entire ranges of premium whiskies, retailing for five-figure sums. It seems pretty clear that they were going after Macallan's crown as the king of after dinner, fireside drams.
