Created in Longmorn, during the distillery boom of the 1890s, Coleburn was long used for Usher's and Johnnie Walker Red Label blends - though it was far better known in the industry for experimenting with production techniques.
It was just shy of 90 years old when the distillery fell victim to the 1980s "whisky loch" crash, and didn't see an official release as a single malt until Diageo's Rare Malts range in 2000. Since then the distillery has changed hands, and had multiple redevelopment suggestions with no action - however, a few independent single malt releases have hit the market, and the warehouses and brand name are currently in use by Murray McDavid independent bottlers.
