Get your hands on one of the most popular whiskies from the North-East in Benriach whisky.
With a great range here at Royal Mile Whiskies, you can get whatever you’re after, be it a gift, a bottle for your own enjoyment, or something a little more collectable.
Thanks to its wide variety of maturation and peating processes, this typically soft Speyside dram has many different levels of smoky kick.
A unique mix of smoky and sweet
After a long period of being an easy-going, sweet Speyside dram, Benriach’s portfolio has taken this sweet, nutty cookie and white fruit base, exposing it to everything from light, mid and heavy peating through to every cask maturation under the sun. That means you can experience a myriad of styles from one distillery, reflected in a fascinating series of vintage releases.

Established by founder of the Longmorn distillery, John Duff, Benriach entered the world at the worst possible time. The Pattison brothers were rapidly inflating whisky demands at the time, exaggerating the success of their own business, and exhibiting other very poor business practices that would later get them jailed. When this false bubble burst at the end of 1898 many distilleries - some built solely to satisfy this false demand - faltered. This sudden over-supply of whisky became known as the Pattison Crash and it claimed the life of Benriach in 1899, only two years after it started production.
For the next 65 years Benriach’s stills lay dormant, with only the malting floors in use to supply the Longmorn distillery’s malt requirements. Finally, as the whisky industry took an upturn, Glenlivet Distilleries Co resurrected Benriach and set it back to work.
From 1965 to 2001, Benriach saw a few ownership changes and a few different single malt bottlings, but none were found to be particularly worthy of note. It was only when Pernod Ricard sold it to Billy Walker in 2003 that the range expanded, and he founded the Benriach Distillery Co. Billy’s background as a former blender brought the expertise to mix older, younger and peated casks from Benriach’s stocks and build an exceptional collection of bottlings.
After a great success, the company went on to buy both Glendronach and Glenglassaugh distilleries, and reopened Benriach’s malting floors. Benriach Distillery Co and all three distilleries were bought by Bacardi in 2016, as part of their ever-increasing whisky arm.

Thanks to the variety of flavours and peat found in these drams, there’s a little bit of something for everyone. Check out two popular Benriach tipples in our range:
Benriach Malting Season Batch 2 - Concerto barley blooms beautifully in bourbon casks for 9 years, creating a uniquely malted and sugared palate in this second batch.
Strong notes include sliced clementines in syrup and vanilla bean ganache. A touch of honey and crisp apple makes it a delicately balanced profile that’s both refreshing and rich.
Benriach The Smoky 12-Year-Old - Mixed maturation is the name of the game for this bottle, using a combination of Marsala, Sherry and bourbon barrels. Peated to perfection, this is a cool and uncommon twist on a Speyside malt.
A bolder flavour is prominent in the gentle smoke and soaked sultanas of this dram’s palate. Toasted oak, red wine, charred grain and ripe berries melt into a chocolatey finish for an indulgent and luxurious scotch.
