Made from a blend of Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Francesca, Krohn Tawny Port spends three years ageing in small oak casks, which hold about 630 litres of wine. As it matures in cask, Tawny Port undergoes the process of gentle oxidation, which makes it gradually lose the deep ruby colour and turn into a tawny, almost amber colour. Fruity flavours of blackcurrant and black cherries, turn into notes of hazelnuts and dried figs. At the end of its maturation in casks, the wines are then blended for the tawny port to achieve its consistent, rich butterscotchy quality.
