Longmorn Whisky

Since the early 20th century Longmorn has be thought of as a 'jewl in the blender's crown'. It was founded by whisky entrepreneur John Duff, who also founded Glenlossie and Benriach distilleries. As a single malt it has enjoyed cult success and has mostly been available through independent bottlers, although there are official bottlings available. A fruity, sweet and fresh Speyside malt whisky.

John Duff, Longmorn's founder, had quite the life in the whisky industry. As well as Longmorn he found Glenlossie and Benriach while also managing Glendronach and Bon Accord distilleries. Longmorn was the final distillery that he set up and all seemed to be going well until the whisky bubble burst and John had to sell all of his assets to settles the debts for Longmorn and Benriach.

Longmorn was sold to James Grant in 1898 and remained so until 1970 when Glen Grant distilleries was merged with Glenlivet and Hill Thomson and Co. Longmorn continued to produce spirit, mostly for blenders, all throughout this time. In fact it has never had a considerable closure since it started producing.

These days Longmorn is part of Pernod Ricard's stable of Speyside distilleries and is still used for blends, however it is much easier to find these days as a single malt than it ever has been. There are now several expression of Longmorn on the market and it seems this is a distillery which will continue on for a long, long time.
