Scotch Whisky

Scotch Whisky

"I'll have a Scotch." How many times have you heard that phrase uttered and stopped to think about what it actually means?

It's not a style of whisky and it is not a single brand; it is simply whisky that has been made & matured in the nation of Scotland. Scotland has a long and storied history of making whisky with the first written evidence of it appearing in 1494, although it is thought that whisky was being produced long before that. Since then Scotland has pioneered the art of whisky making gaining praise around the world.

To protect the good name of Scotch whisky and to ensure the high standards that have been set are adhered to there are several laws that must be followed in order to make Scotch whisky - with the main point stating it can only be made in Scotland. Currently there are only five different kinds of whisky that can be made in Scotland; Single malt, Single Grain, Blended Malt, Blended Grain and Blended Whisky (a mixture of malts and grains). You can find out more about all these different styles of whisky in their respective sections of the website.

Scotch whisky is enjoyed all over the world; from London to Lisbon and from Troon to Tokyo so next time you hear someone ask for a "Scotch" keep it mind that it all comes from a very small nation in the North Atlantic Ocean.

Diageo, for being the biggest company in the Scotch whisky industry, is very experimental.
The single cask is part of the Glenfarclas family cask range. It was distilled in 1980 and has been matured in a single refill hogshead.
Glenlochy hasn't produced a drop of whisky since 1983. That's a long time by anyone's standard so we'd expect that the worldwide supplies must be running low.
An impressively aged Glenrothes from 1980 bottled in Adelphi's Limited range in 2019.
A rich and sherried 38 year old blended whisky with good malty flavours for under £200 is quite unusual these days, we are sure this won't hang around for too long.
