Scarabus Islay Single Malt 46% 70cl
Scarabus Islay Single Malt
This is the first expression from the new 'Scarabus' range by independent bottler Hunter Laing. Launched at the Fèis Ìle 2019 at their newly opened Ardnahoe distillery, Scarabus is a mystery malt which showcases a traditional Islay whisky style of typical medicinal smoke balanced with rich, sweeter notes. It is named after a farmland on Islay where once a Scarabuss Distillery operated for a short time between 1817-18.
Staff Tasting Notes:
Nose: Cold smoked salmon, brine, crushed peanuts, cardboard- ashes. Impressively balanced
Palate: Sweet and salty and very elegant. There is a yoghurty texture and then
Finish: Long, burnt caramel. Treacle, berries and creme brulee. The smoke and ash lingers for quite some time.
Official Tasting Notes: Aromas of Islay peat smoke and sea salt, followed by warming leather notes, stewed rhubarb and a wonderful vanilla sweetness on the palate, leading to a rich lingering finish.
