Port Charlotte Scottish Barley 50% 70cl
Port Charlotte Scottish Barley
Port Charlotte is produced by Bruichladdich Distillery, and is one of their heavily peated versions, that is aged at Port Charlotte on Islay (where there was once a distillery). Technically speaking, the barley is peated to roughly 40PPM prior to distillation, which is the same level as Laphroaig. Bruichladdich employ a pretty big work force on the Island, and locally source their ingredients. This is their Scottish Barley edition (there will soon be an Islay Barley edition). Port Charlotte has a very distinct style, with big BBQ notes, smokiness and honey.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose: At first, there is a wave of iodine, crushed sea shells, oaky notes, black pepper, paprika and tobacco. With a bit more time in the glass, rich sweet flavours come to the fore, with vanilla, figs, dates, pear, dark toffee and walnuts.
Palate: A sweet, smooth warm smoke, followed by a nice, sweet barley sugar, further hints of toffee and vanilla, with a citrus note. A warming finish.
