Port Charlotte 2002 Buxton 46% 50cl
Port Charlotte 2002 Buxton
This is a single cask of heavily peated spirit from Bruichladdich Distillery, owned and bottled by the whisky writer Ian Buxton. Distilled in 2002, this release sold out extremely quickly after bottling in 2007.
Tasting Notes by Ian Buxton
Colour: Pale straw.
Nose: Peat, of course, but not oppressive or overly dominant. Some vanilla hints but notes of smoke and spent fireworks - perhaps the bottling date was not totally coincidental!
Palate: Mouth filling. A very 'big' whisky with the smoke very prominent but an underlying sweetness is soon revealed. This is remarkably smooth for the age. Opens delightfully with water.
Finish: A long salty finish that lingers. Spicy hints.
