Miyashita Distillery had been producing beer, sake and shochu well before moving into Japanese whisky. A rewarding move though, and this bottling - named after the southern prefecture of Japan that the distillery calls home - celebrates their 100th birthday. Made using a combination of Japanese and German malted barley, then aged in ex-brandy barrels, the Okayama combines a floral quality with citrus, honey, and a peppercorn warmth, which relaxes into oaky spices.
