Description

This edition of Bruichladdich is made exclusively with Bere barley grown in the Dunlossit Estate on the Isle of Islay, Bere-ly ten miles away from the distillery. This particular strain of barley is considered to be the oldest cultivated cereal in Britain, with indications of a farming history dating back 5000 years. Bere is a hardy barley, able to withstand very poor conditions, but it is also pretty stingy, providing only 50% of the usual crop yield. The tougher grains help to bring out the malt and fruit notes in the whisky, creating a full bodied spirit that bursts with gooseberries, orchard fruits and floral, grassy tones, over the rich depths of malt.
