American Whiskey

American Whiskey

Whiskey production in America has a story so wild and engrossing you could make a film about it. In fact, people have and continue to do so as there are so many outlandish tales to tell.

Over the years whiskey in America has been prescribed as medicine, outlawed, produced by Presidents and enjoyed by rock stars. It also, perhaps, has the strictest laws in the world when it comes to production.

Whiskey in America has faced many challenges over the years but perhaps none bigger than Prohibition. On January 17th 1920 and lasted for a period of thirteen years. During this times the production, sale and transport of alcoholic spirits was not permitted anywhere in the United States. This was, obviously, a very bad thing for legitimate whiskey producers in America with many closing their doors for good during this time. The Prohibition act was repealed in 1933 but it took a long time for the American whiskey industry to recover.

Nowadays the American whiskey industry is the hub of innovation in the spirits world with new ideas and styles appearing all the time. The rise in craft distilleries all over the United States has led to a whole new world of spirits that have already added to the heritage and history of American whiskey.
